Promotional Requirements
This section pertains to specific judo techniques which are part of the requirements for the ascending judo ranks. The trainee, when examined by the chief instructor for promotional purposes, will be required to demonstrate any and/or all of those techniques as requested. Special emphasis must be given to demonstrate the skill with movement patterns to ensure that the student is able to recognize the effects of various directions, tempos and postures upon a particular technique. Linked attacks, avoidance, counters etc. will be demonstrated by the ‘project-setting’ approach, whereby the instructor will request the student to link up specific attacking movements in a pre-determined sequence. A successful demonstration will depend upon the trainee’s appreciation of the concept and the technical correctness (logic) of his movements. The degree of appreciation and understanding will increase in relation to the rank for which the student is tested.
